Whistle While You Work

As predicted this final term of my university career is proving to be a hectic one. Having a job in addition to my regular classes and the dreaded Dissertation is making for a busy life. Add to all of that the constant flow of builders in our home as this 'clown house' throws up one issue after another (most recent issue: a gas leak. Brilliant!) and I feel like I'm heading towards a full blown meltdown. And I don't think I'm the only one. I think I can safely say we're all feeling the pressure of fourth year. However, it's definitely not all bad. At least we're all in this together and the weather is starting to brighten up. Hooray for spring!

My mum always jokes that the house is a lot quieter when I'm not around because I'm forever pottering around whistling some tune or another. This is something that's cropped up recently in my house, as my house-mate Jen has realised she can't whistle!! Her new task has been trying to teach herself how to, and me and Rachel are trying to help by setting her tasks (such as whistling a different note on each step as she walks up the stairs). Although she is definitely improving, tuning is a slight problem. Nevertheless, it always brings a smile to my face hearing a monotone whistle from the depths of the house!

But, back to my work. Picking a topic for my Dissertation was no easy task. I played around with a few ideas, but nothing was really grabbing me. After a conversation with my parents I was given the idea to write my dissertation on a very American thing that I have always loved: Disney. I was so drawn to the idea of writing about Disney because I thought writing on something that I am already interested in would help to concentrate and maintain my attention for 10,000 words. I'm definitely finding it an interesting topic, but as I look at the pile of books and journal articles I have to get through I can't help but feel overwhelmed. I have to just try and not give into this and maybe take some inspiration from the Seven Dwarfs, who along with Jen inspired the title for this blog, and just dig, dig, dig away one bit at a time safe in the knowledge that in 3 months I'll be singing "Hi Ho" on my way home from the hand in...

  1. yes, we do miss your whistling Nell :@(

but interestingly, Dash responds better to whistles than even being called by name.....you're obviously kindred spirits and will have great fun going on walks together..... ;@)

  2. You'll be fine as long as you avoid old crones offering you apples and, thinking about it, princes are probably best put on the back burner until you've handed your work in. Too distracting!!
